A Blessing In Disguise

This weekend was definitely...an interesting one. I definitely feel like Heavenly Father was watching over me this weekend. I haven't been to a ward activity at all this semester, not because I didn't want to, I've just been busy every time they do something. This one sounded fun and I decided that I would go since I had extra time. So my best friend Megan came with me, my roommate Kali and her boyfriend Matt to the ward party. So we drove to a member of the bishoprics house and behind the house is a river that you can float down on tubes or whatever you want, but it's not very deep. I actually think it's more like a canal...only about 2-3 ft. deep for the most part. But every once in a while there were little rapid areas and such. We were one of the last ones to get into the river with the bishopric and their wives because we showed up a little late. The water was FREEZING...but we managed and had fun with it and eventually became numb that we didn't even notice it was cold. So we saw a bunch of people in the ward who knew who I was, someone even saved my shoe for me...I was freaking out about losing my shoe because it was one of my favorites. Haha. Anyway, so we weren't sure where we were supposed to get off, but we knew that we would run into a lake, so we kept going. It was us 4 and some random guy in our ward that I had never met. He was a nice guy though. Well, turns out we missed the spot we were supposed to get out at and went about 2-3 miles too far. We would have kept going if we weren't about to go over a water fall...in just our tubes and bathing suits. So we get out of the river, decide we went too far and need to follow the river back up and find some civilization. Where we were there were no houses or anything in sight. Just trees, fences and fields. So we climbed up a barbed wire fence and started walking. We made the best of a bad situation and made up stories and sang songs and whatnot, tried not to think about the situation we were in. If I really think about it, it was a pretty scary situation and not a good one at all. My friend Megan lost a shoe, so she only had one, and the other guy with us didn't have shoes. We were walking on sticks and there were broken barbed wire fences all over the ground and prickly plants and whatnot. We happened to have a rubber tire that had popped, so we used the fences to cut it up and improvise to make them into shoes...they seemed to work out pretty nicely for them. So we walked for about an hour and climbed up about 5 different fences and finally found a house....obviously it was private property and we were trespassing, but we didn't really care. We were very dehydrated and had not idea where we were. And we were only in our bathing suits...talk about awkward. So as we are walking up from behind the house we see a van pull up in the driveway and we are thinking to ourselves, "great....this isn't awkward at all." It ends up being our bishopric! They weren't going to turn down that street because it said "Private Property DO NOT ENTER"...but they did anyway just to see. The people from the house came outside and started taking pictures of us with their camera phones and laughing at us...I can imagine it would be humorous looking at us. Well, the funniest part is they only knew that Trevor was missing. When they found us they said..."Trevor you're here!" I'm glad that he was with us because if he hadn't of been they wouldn't have known we were missing until they cleaned everything up and my purse was left on the lawn...but at the same time I was furious because they didn't realize we were missing. It was very unorganized but I truly believe that it was a blessing that Trevor was with us. It was all just crazy and an adventure and I'm glad we stopped before the water fall...it would have been very very scary had we kept going. Who knows what would have happened to us. Good thing I'm a worry wart and said NO. There were many times that I feel as though the Lord was guiding us to that house where the bishopric found us. We wanted to cross the river to a different house, but I said no because I didn't want to get into the freezing water. Good thing we didn't! Because there wasn't a road, it was difficult to make a path to where we were going...but we ended up going the right way and it was all a blessing in disguise. Moral of the story...when having ward events, know EVERYONE that is there, be SAFE and ORGANIZED...and have fun.

I'm glad all turned out well. I probably had the same guy in my bishopric...don't remember names though. We played mud football in his field that he let flood and then we all cleaned off in a little canal thing on his property. Fun times.

That's crazy! You should watch Bear Grills to learn what to do if you are caught in the wilderness. ;) But actually there was a 9 yr old scout in our friend's ward who got lost in the mountains and was okay because he watched Bear and learned things from his show. Anyways... so glad you're okay and things worked out.
